How are you all doing?
I hope you are all doing well. . . .
This is my new blog. . . .
I am really sorry for the late blog. . . . because i was busy with exams. .
This post is all about a microscope which is at a low budget.
So, we can say it as Small budget big outcome.
So don't skip to read the blog.
I think you all found about what type of microscope that i am going to say in this blog.
Yes, it is FOLD SCOPE.
WHAT IS FOLD SCOPE?
Fold scope is an optical microscope which can be assembled from simple components, including a sheet of paper and a lens. This was developed by Manu Prakash.
He decided to design it less than US $1 to build it.[rupees 38]
It is a part of a "Frugal Science" movement which aims to make cheap and easy tools available for scientific use in the developing the world.
Fold scope is made with a card stock paper, a spherical glass lens, a light emitting diode and a diffuser panel along with a watch battery that powers the LED.
Once it is assembled it will be in a size of a book mark. The total weight of the fold scope is 8 grams.
He gives this fold scope as a kit in which scope is not assembled. He gives multiple lens which provide magnification from 140x to 2000x.
Manu Prakash sates that the fold scope can survive harsh conditions, including being thrown from 5 story building.
Even though, the fold scope has prove itself useful for a number of tasks, it is not currently adapted to be used as a medical diagnostics tool. For Example: It was impossible to prevent contamination from urine samples because the fold scope must be brought up to one's face to view.
Jim Cybulski, a former graduate student of Manu Prakash, is conducting research about using the fold scope for diagnostic testing.
Here are some images taken by fold scope.
